What is a Prayer Group (Cell)?
- It is a group of people (minimum 3) who meet regularly (preferably) weekly or daily to pray.
- Prayer group (cells) operate at any time, at the place that seems most convenient to the Prayer Cell members. For example at their houses, work, school, sports club, college etc.
Why pray?
- It works miracles both in your inner and outer world.
- It pleasures the heart of God Ex 25:22. God enjoys your companionship and seeks communion with you.
- It brings pleasure to you. Matt 11:28 “Come to me…..” Prayer is as necessary for your spirit as food is for the body.
- It blesses others. 1 Tim 2:1 “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;”
Where does a Prayer Cell fit into the structure of your local church?
- All Prayer Group (Cells) fall directly under the District Pastor of that specific area.
- The Prayer Groups (Cells) function as an addition to the normal prayer meetings we have on Saturday mornings and before each service.
- Prayer Groups (Cells) are not to replace the normal Home Cells.
What should be done during a Prayer Group (Cell) meeting?
- The Prayer Group (Cell) will run on the same principles as a home cell. (4 W’s).
- There should be a time for
- There should be a time for (Praise & Worship CD)
- There should be a time for the Word. (Reading some scriptures, Psalms, Proverbs, etc.)
- There should be a time for Works. (Praying about the topics given.) At least 50% of a prayer cell's time must be spent in actual prayer and intercession.
Prayer themes
- The Prayer Groups (Cells) pray along with the topics that are listed as themes in this booklet.
- Once these topics have been covered, the Group (Cell) can pray over items specifically relevant to the group.
- This will also be in addition to the Prayer Shield, for which our whole congregation is continually praying. (The Prayer Shield is a prayer strategy where every level in the church pray for the level directly above and below your level, and the bottom level pray for all the levels upward and the top level, Senior Pastor, prays for all the levels downward.)
What do we want to achieve through the Prayer Cells?
- We want to get all Prayer Groups (Cells) to pray in the same direction on similar topics and themes.
- We want to see our geographical areas, neighbourhoods, and the country changed through prayer.
- We want to establish the church’s spiritual authority over every part of our country.
- We want to control the spiritual atmosphere over our neighbourhoods.
- We want to see crime diminish in our country.
- We want to live in peace, safety and prosperity.
- We want more effective prayer for our specific area and its problems.
- We want to see the Kingdom of God grow.
Benefits of belonging to a prayer cell
- It will help you to improve your spiritual level.
- It gives people that do not attend formal prayer meetings at a Church the opportunity to pray with other Christians. By having several prayer meetings in the areas where people live and work, we make these meetings more accessible to congregation members and non-members.
- Continued prayer at different times and geographical places will change the spiritual atmosphere in the area.
Roles & Responsibilities of a Prayer Cell Leader

- A Prayer Group (Cell) Leader should be a commitment to God.
- He/she should be committed to praying to make a difference.
- A Prayer Group (Cell) Leader must register the Prayer Cell.
- To stay with your local church's vision, each Prayer Group (Cell) Leader must submit to the leadership of the local church.
